Nandlal Narayanan is the Chairperson of the Governing Board of Swasti Health Catalyst. With over five decades of experience in the business and social development sectors, Nandlal brings a blend of working with the corporate and in social sectors with government, non-governmental organisations and multilateral organisations. He has been guiding Swasti on its mission for more than a decade now.
J.V.R Prasada Rao
J.V.R.Prasada Rao is the Vice Chairperson of the Board at Swasti Health Catalyst. He has impeccable credentials in public healthcare domain and has occupied very senior offices, both at the UN level as well as in the national level. He has served as Member Secretary of two independent commissions on AIDS in Asia and the Pacific and is currently a Commissioner of the Global Commission on HIV and the Law. He is an IAS officer from the 1967 batch, West Bengal cadre.
Shama Karkal is the Chief Executive Officer of Swasti Health Catalyst. She leads our responses to public health issues across India and global engagement with government, private sector, academia and non-profit partners. An alumnus of the School of Social Work, University of Maryland, Shama has worked in India and in the USA on public health, including leading one of the largest urban health engagement, Avahan III. Shama is a Steering Committee Member at the Asia Pacific Alliance for Sexual and Reproductive Health, and a Trustee of the Catalyst Foundation.
Siddhi has over 18 years of experience in social development in India, working in programmes related to Education, Disaster Risk Reduction, Health and Livelihoods. Her expertise is in qualitative research, knowledge management and documentation and Communication. An understanding of development issues and needs, coupled with a learning orientation provides her with an edge to identifying the needs and requirements of the different stakeholders she works with. Her experience has afforded her the opportunity to interact with different stakeholders from community-based and non-governmental organisations,
district and state governments, funding agencies, international NGOs, and academic institutions.
Dr. Angela Chaudhuri
Angela has over 18 years of experience in Public health in India and internationally. She is a Director of Swasti Health Catalyst. From evaluation of several countries’ national HIV programmes, to research, capacity building and knowledge management, Angela works closely with governments, civil society, community groups and corporates. She has led teams to help countries raise almost a billion dollars towards HIV, TB, Malaria, Health Systems Strengthening. She continues to support governments with poor health outcomes to help strengthen their systems of information, human resource management and planning. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Dental Sciences and Masters in Public Health. She has lived in five countries, has worked in over 30 countries and most of it in India. She currently serves as a board member in the Catalyst Group of Institutions, IDEX Global Accelerator , AIDS Asia Pacific and Partnership of Maternal Newborn and Child Health (PMNCH). She was just recently inducted into the MIT Solve Leadership group and she is the Chief of Party, for the Learning 4 Impact Platform for USAID India Health Office.
Joseph Julian K. G.
Joseph is a development professional and Director at Swasti. With an expertise in capacity building, programme planning and designing, developing M&E systems, he leads Swasti’s work in Life Skills for All.
Thangavelu leads the Project Management Office and Administration at Swasti Health Catalyst. Extremely well versed with computer usage, he is skilled in personnel management and written and verbal communication. His experience spans office management and administration, including office set up, asset management, safekeeping of official documents, risk management and logistical support for all program activities including training, workshops and travel.
Rajarethinam has over 30 years of experience in development in India – both at the funding and programme management levels. He has expertise in planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEAL), with a focus on child rights.
Dr. Narayanan has experience in gender, development and HIV/AIDS and was the National Project Coordinator of CHARCA, the joint UN Project addressing women’s vulnerability to HIV/AIDS from 2002 to 2005.
Ravi has 32 years of experience in consultancy and advocacy. He has a qualification in Business Administration and a Bachelor of Law. He is a Senior Partner at ILPM Consultants, a leading industrial/corporate law firm in Bangalore and a partner at Ravi, Sunita & Suri Advocates, which provides quality legal services covering the entire spectrum of law.
Dr. Jacob John
Dr. Jacob John is a psychiatrist, with experience in providing general and rehabilitative psychiatry and counselling and training in HIV. He is currently working as a Specialist Psychiatrist for the Government of Brunei in Bandar Seri Begawan.
Raghunathan is the Founding Director of The Catalyst Group, which houses Catalyst Management Services, Vrutti Livelihood Resource Centre, and Swasti Health Catalyst. The group has a combined strength of working across the levels, supporting through both management and domain expertise and a large resource base. He is a Social Entrepreneur, Impact Accelerator and Integrator. His passion is to facilitate solutions at a scale that eliminate inequities, marginalisation, hunger and poverty. He is focused on bringing change to small and medium producers and vulnerable communities through social enterprises models. Raghunathan has over 28 years of experience in the livelihood, social and rural sector. He is the creator of 3-Fold, a model with the intent of building wealthy, resilient and responsible smallholder farmers. In a consulting capacity Raghunathan has led a number of assignments in impact and program evaluations, value chain and market studies, business modelling and customer satisfaction. The cornerstone of these, and other such initiatives ideated by him is enhancing market engagement and competitiveness of large number of micro, small and medium entrepreneurs in the rural, and non-farm sectors, towards a larger goal of wealth creation for the entrepreneurs and improved market maturity of the economy.
Shiv Kumar is the Founding Director of The Catalyst Group, a social enterprise that converges community capacities, market efficiencies, reach and government partnership to design sustainable solutions to poverty. With 26 years of dedicated work to institution building and social impact, in India and globally, Shiv lives the maxim ‘Act with urgency, be patient with outcomes’. He founded Swasti Health Catalyst, a pioneering organisation in public health, in 2004. Over the past 15 years, Swasti has reached more than 4 million urban and rural poor with health impact solutions, supported 87 community organisations on the path to sustainability, and helped partners, across 23 countries, succeed by raising 54 billion in resources and through solution designing. Shiv has raised 10 billion in the hands of the communities. He is today spearheading a system innovation effort, Invest for Wellness, to change the way healthcare is envisioned and delivered in India at scale, with a clear focus on reaching the unreached.
