Swasti - Everyday Wellbeing for Margianlised Communities

Boiler Plate

Swasti means “Wellbeing” in Sanskrit, but when you go deeper into the various ancient texts, it means "Supreme Bliss”. This is a reminder to us that we are more than just an organisation; we are a family bound by purpose, driven by passion, and united in our pursuit of everyday wellbeing for all.

Swasti is a glocal public health platform that catalyses ideas, individuals and institutions to achieve everyday well-being for some of the world’s most vulnerable and marginalised communities. Swasti strives to add 100 million healthy days to the lives of the world’s poor. To achieve this, the global multidisciplinary team at Swasti co-designs demonstrable and scalable solution models in partnership with communities on the ground and influences policies nationally and internationally. We work to upgrade the discourse from health to wellbeing and bring the missing pieces in wellbeing together (social, behavioural, management and technology) around the technical/medical aspects, with a strong focus on Health Systems Strengthening for equity and Community systems strengthening.

Swasti is a registered not for profit organisation, headquartered in Bangalore, India and part of the Catalyst Group of institutions, having worked across more than 25 countries South Asia, South East Asia and parts of East Africa. Swasti prioritises people-centred health systems. Inspired by the Alma Ata and Astana declarations on primary healthcare, Swasti transforms the sense of powerlessness felt by vulnerable individuals by activating their own agency. We empower health workers who enjoy and can inspire the trust of vulnerable communities and orchestrate equity-focused outcomes at the policy level through our wide, intersectional network of partners and platforms. Because we move beyond the exclusionary realm of medical care, we are able to take a holistic approach to public health- responding to imminent threats including future pandemics, but also increasing the number of healthy days that marginalised communities enjoy on an everyday basis.

Swasti is recognised as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (SIRO) by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR). This recognition entitles Swasti to receive required administrative support from the DSIR on scientific research activities. Swasti is also an official member of the Partnership for Maternal, Newborn & Child Health.Swasti has Special Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council since 2017. ECOSOC serves as the central forum for discussing international economic and social issues, and formulating policy recommendations addressed to member states and the United Nations system. This status enabled us to actively engage with the United Nations in our area of special competence - Public Health
