Healthcare Norms

Health institutions and health workers are on the front lines of the fight against COVID-19. Our efforts to curtail the spread of the virus hinge on the adaptability and commitment of our health workers and institutions. At the same time, they need protection from infection and form the stigma and discrimination that comes from the fear of the virus. This section contains health-care communication materials developed and used by USAID partners as well as other government and non-government agencies that empower health professionals and institutions to address this emergency as well as to help them get the respect and support they deserve.

"New data released today by the World Health Organization (WHO) show that countries around the world were able to withstand further setbacks to malaria prevention, testing and treatment services in 2021. Malaria cases continued to rise between 2020 and 2021, but at a slower rate than in the period 2019 to 2020. The global tally of malaria cases reached 247 million in 2021, compared to 245 million in 2020 and 232 million in 2019.

This press release indicates that Malarial prevention and control measures have been effectively deployed across countries to curb its further spread during the pandemic. However, it also indicates a further need for research and development to sustain the momentum"
