Our efforts to curtail the spread of the virus hinge on the adaptability and commitment of our health workers and institutions. At the same time, they need protection from infection and form the stigma and discrimination that comes from the fear of the virus. For any doctor caring for inpatients with COVID-19, especially those with serious illnesses, 2020 was a bleak and uncertain year. The range of available treatments has now been substantially expanded thanks to several well-conducted research. Through a predetermined secondary analysis of their previously published randomised clinical trials, researchers from the international Randomized Embedded Multifactorial Adaptive Platform for Community-Acquired Pneumonia (REMAP-CAP) consortium take a significant step toward filling these evidence gaps in this issue of JAMA.
