Indians living in an urban jungle usually die for a balcony view filled with surprises. These days, most of us wake up to birds musing instead of the legendary car horns. Yes, we would never have imagined waking up not to the sounds of traffic but the songs of bulbuls and mynahs over the cold morning air.
I wonder when an Indian city last felt like this.
These are fortune thrills! Do you know why?
We live in a country where most urban households - a family of five or six are squeezed into a single room. And here we are living, laughing and working through the lockdown in an upscale apartment with a balcony covered in potted plants.
We have been asked to stay safe, stay clean. In the least we can do is follow them. If that means that we are mostly staying indoors, sitting under an open sky, beneath passing clouds, studying a birdbath - then be it. We are fortunate lots!
Believe it or not, this is how the world looks from inside the silver lining. Well some of us have also been
- Doing corridor movements
- Using the common lift area
- Withdrawing cash at ATMs
- Buying essentials across the street, from independent shops or even online
- Stepping out and working from our respective offices
- Utilizing sporting spaces in apartments
- Walking in the open
