Swasti joined hands with the United Way of Chenai, to support the Transgender Rights Association (TRA), a community based organization working in Chennai, to establish a trans kitchen.
It was set up with the aim of improving the quality of life of transgender communities residing in Chennai, by offering them a dignified and sustainable way to earn a living.
As of January 2023, the Chennai Trans Kitchen was being run by 10 members of the trans community who have a rich experience in cooking. They underwent professional training to do with catering and food processing.
As Chennai is a metro city, establishing a kitchen was a feasible, revenue-generating activity that also provided livelihood to 10 trans folks. Moreover, it also improved the confidence of community members to opt for livelihoods that will improve their health and wealth.
